Our Story
60 Years of St. Louis Tradition
It all began in 1964, when Ed and Margie Imo opened a small pizza shop on the south side of St. Louis, Missouri. Armed with a passion for great food and a one-of-a-kind recipe, they set out to create something that would define a city's palate for generations to come.
"We didn't set out to start a pizza empire — we just wanted to make the best pizza in St. Louis and share it with our neighbors."
Their secret? A uniquely thin, cracker-style crust, cut into squares, and topped with a proprietary blend of Provel cheese — a St. Louis original. This isn't just pizza. It's a cultural institution that has grown to over 100 locations while staying true to the original recipe that made it famous.
Today, Imos Pizza continues to be family-owned and operated, serving the same recipes that have delighted customers for six decades. Every pizza that leaves our kitchen carries the same love, craftsmanship, and tradition that Ed and Margie established all those years ago.

1964
The Beginning — Delor Street, St. Louis
Ed and Margie Imo open their first pizza shop in a small space on Delor Street in south St. Louis. Armed with Ed's unique thin-crust recipe and Margie's warm hospitality, the shop immediately wins over the neighborhood.
1972
The Provel Perfection
Imos officially adopts Provel — a unique blend of cheddar, Swiss, and provolone cheese — as the signature topping for all its pizzas. This decision forever distinguishes Imos from any other pizza chain in America, creating the definitive St. Louis-style pizza profile.
1985
Franchising & Rapid Expansion
After two decades of loyal customers and word-of-mouth acclaim, Imos launches its franchise program. Within just five years, more than 50 new locations open across the greater St. Louis metropolitan area, making Imos a household name throughout Missouri.
1999
Online Ordering Launched
Imos embraces the digital age by becoming one of the first regional pizza chains to offer online ordering. The innovation makes it even easier for customers to enjoy their favorite square-cut pies from the comfort of home, dramatically increasing delivery orders.
2010
100th Location Milestone
Imos Pizza celebrates the opening of its 100th restaurant — a landmark achievement for any family-founded business. The milestone is marked with community celebrations, special events, and a renewed commitment to the values that made the brand great from the start.
